Hello Colima Warbler Volunteers!
The next Colima Warbler Census is now scheduled for May 13, 14, and 15 of 2022.
Volunteers would need to arrive in Big Bend NP on Friday, May 13. Surveys will be on Saturday and Sunday. If possible, we hope to have a group dinner in the Chisos Mountains Lodge dining room on Sunday at 5pm.
NOTE: The info below is from 2015 and will be updated as we get closer to the 2022 census.

Below you will find a summary table with your assigned territory or territories, followed by a more detailed description of each territory and a territory map, and the census protocol.
Other pertinent information is as follows – please read it carefully:
Plan to arrive in the park on Friday, May 13, to pick up your packets. We will be on the back patio of the Chisos Mountains Lodge from 3-5pm and 6-8pm for pickup. If you are in Austin, we are planning to have a happy hour at our house (date/time TBD) for you to pick up your packets before heading out to Big Bend. In your packet you will find a territory map, data sheet, a copy of the research permit, and other general information. You will also receive the 2022 edition of the Colima Warbler hat!

If you are backpacking, site reservations have already been made for Friday and Saturday nights. Please remember to pick up your backpacking permit at Panther Junction when you arrive in the park. If you haven't already, you will need to reserve a spot in the Basin Campground for Sunday night (May 15), unless you have already booked some other lodging or you are leaving the park early.

There will be a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner (our treat) in the Lodge dining room starting at 5pm on Sunday, May 15. A Mexican buffet has been planned, with some vegetarian/vegan options available. Please arrive at the start in order to make sure we don’t run out of options! The dining room will be open to the public but a section of the dining room will be reserved for our group. If you plan to leave the park early and not partake of the dinner, please let us know so we can get an accurate headcount to the Lodge restaurant.
You will receive a softcopy of the report we will write and submit to the National Park Service with the census results. This report is required by the research permit.
